# About and editorial policy

research.askpoppy.ai summarizes research on how people learn, in plain words, for parents, homeschoolers, IB and Waldorf families, self-directed learners aged 16 and over, and teachers.

## Who writes it

The Ask Poppy team at Poppy Labs AS in Oslo, Norway, founded by Simon Dreyer. We make [Ask Poppy](https://askpoppy.ai/?utm_source=research&utm_medium=site&utm_campaign=about), an AI tutor app, and free study tools at [learn.askpoppy.ai](https://learn.askpoppy.ai/). That is a conflict of interest on topics such as AI tutoring, so we disclose it here and on any page that mentions our app.

## How summaries are written

- **AI-assisted, checked by people.** Drafts are written with AI help, then checked line by line against the paper. Every number on a page appears in the source.
- **We say what we read.** Each page says whether we read the full text, the abstract plus parts of the paper, or only the abstract.
- **We say what kind of study it is** (randomized trial, meta-analysis, observational cohort, lab experiment) and whether it was peer-reviewed or is a preprint or working paper.
- **Limitations are required.** Every summary lists them, including when authors evaluated their own product.
- **No overstatement.** Correlations are not described as causes, short-term results are not described as long-term, and a lab result is not described as a classroom result.
- **Ask Poppy appears at most once per page**, in a single "try it" line, and only where the research is about how tutoring works. Summaries do not claim the research proves anything about our app.

## How papers are chosen

Mostly recent work (2024–2026) on AI tutors and cognitive offloading, retrieval practice, spacing, self-explanation, metacognition, Socratic and dialogic tutoring, voice and learning, motivation and homeschooling outcomes, plus a few landmark classics for context. We prefer randomized trials, meta-analyses and large cohorts, and we include studies whatever their findings, including ones that cut against AI tutoring.

## Privacy
